" The knowledge of 'making life' is embedded in the fractal geometry and morphological sequences of nature. If we can establish a process and method to reconnect the human-nature relationship and secure resilience through our actions, both in practice, research and teaching, we can be liberated." - Phillip B. Roös (2017)
The Architecture for LifeIn order to create healthy living environments in our cities and buildings, we need to include the principles of biophilia - our innate connection to nature. Human beings are intrinsically connected and linked to visible and non-visible geometric forms and patterns in nature. This biophilic effect is important as part of our daily lives and can be divided into two parallels; one source of biophilic instinct is derived from inherent memory due to evolution, and the second source is derived from the biological structure of nature itself. This structure comprises the geometrical rules of biological forms, a language of patterns; in essence, the combination of geometrical properties and elements of landscapes embodied in the complex structures found within all living forms (Salingaros, 2012; 2015: 9). Using the principles of biophilia and embedded patterns in a design narrative results ultimately in 'The Architecture for Life'

Architecture & DesignRegenerative architecture is an intervention injecting a sense of renewal into a particular physical place. This intervention must be ecologically sustainable, in touch with its natural surroundings, and regenerative-adaptive. A place that is 'alive' includes an appreciation of its setting in harmony with the landscape and surroundings, and a built form that responds to the climate and connects the indoors to the outdoors. The wholeness of its structure ensures an exceptional living experience. Living structure created by design results in a place with soul.

Drawing & PaintingThe process of drawing and painting based on fractal geometry and processes in nature helps us to reconnect to the natural world, assist in healing, and promote individual self-discovery through the enhancement of multitude sensory attractions embedded in the patterns of biophilia.
WritingsThere is incredible power in the written word. Words do matter. "Anthropologists tell us that our ability for complex reasoning evolved at the same time as humans developed language. That’s because language provides us with a sort of source code for advanced thought"(Jacobsen, 2013). However, the language of Nature cannot be expressed in words, this language is embedded in the law of natural attraction and sensory phenomena, pattern languages encoded in processes of life.
Photography & FilmOur world is full of marvels to be discovered, our life a journey of exploration, our connection to nature an enlightenment of wisdom.
In Shakespeare's words: "And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything." |
